Day 21, Jan 25 Kauai

Overnight we had traveled from Honolulu to Kauai.
The sun was just coming up behind us when I got up.

We neared the port, we passed the lighthouse.  And then we could see a golf course with people already playing. A Tug boat came out and helped us turn and dock.

Today, we headed to a beach just a short walk from our ship.

The beach we went to was a familiar beach.  It was right in front of the Marriott hotels where Rob had attended a few work conferences.  The big difference was that during the conferences, Toni was out on the beach while Rob was inside.  This time both got to spend the day on the beach.

There was a restaurant called Duke's (named after a famous Hawaiian surfer) that was right on the beach.  And we got carry out and just sat on the beach to eat lunch.

Poipu was also where one of Rob's conferences was at.  Wainea canyon is one of the most visited landmarks on Hawaii. Many movies have been made on Kauai including South Pacific, Jurassic Park, Blue Hawaii, Raiders of the Lost Ark, Six Days Seven Nights and The Descendants.

We had a lot of fun into the afternoon but finally walked back to the ship. There were a lot of sailboats near us.  We saw the tug boat comeback so knew it was getting close to our departure.

And was able to get some laundry done before dinner.

Hawaii was the 50th and last state to join the United States.  It will also be the last state we are in until Florida at the end of April! We will be stopping off at American Samoa, a US territory next week.

Dinner was a hopping good time but none of us got the frog legs to eat that were on the menu.  Toni had Fruit kabobs and Rob Shrimp Cocktail for appetizers. And both got the steak for the main course.

And just like the beautiful sunrise this morning, it was a beautiful sunset.

But the night wasn't over. There was an Aloha party on the pool deck.

An easy and fun day at the USA's 50th state. 5 days at Sea to get us to Tahiti. We are currently at around 20 degrees north of the equator and Tahiti is around 17 degrees south of the equator. So we will be passing the equator in a few days (probably Saturday) for the first time. There will be a big ceremony on the deck for the crossing.
