Traveling to Port Everglades

Driving from Maryland to Fort Lauderdale

We received our Princess Medallions as we were getting ready to pack up the van. These are everything on the ship, our room keys, our IDs, and how we buy things.  They would have had a set for us at the dock if we didn't get them but it was nice to have them in our hands.

We packed our bags and loaded the van. Had to pack for hot weather, chilly weather, rain, wind, formal nights, and a mini pharmacy!

On our first night, we welcomed in a new year at the same time Rob was grumbling about a close loss but the Buckeyes.

Since we still needed to take a covid test and pass to be allowed to board the ship so we wanted to be really careful and avoid crowds. So while we took our time and made some stops, we didn't go into busy buildings, wore masks and used plenty of hand sanitizer.

But we had to pull into to see the Buc-ee's in South Carolina.  Buc-ee's was introduced to us during our visits to Texas. If we thought those Buc-ee's were busy, this was very packed. So while we could almost smell the brisket, we didn't go in. Maybe on the trip home.

When we got to Jacksonville, Florida, we got off of I-95 and took Rt-1 and A1A for awhile.  One stop was to St. Augustine Lighthouse.

We saw that there was going to be a SpaceX launch at Cape Canaveral when we were in that area.  So we couldn't pass this up and found a park just south of the Cape that we could watch from.

While we waited watched a Navy Support vessel and a Coast Guard ship go to sea.

Watched some of the wildlife that had no idea why we were all there and what was going to happen.

Then right on schedule, the Rocket took off and soon rising above the tree line.

And up, up and away!

It left a vapor trail

These SpaceX Falcon 9 rockets also return their first stage to land back at the cape about 8 1/2 minutes after launch. And they stuck the landing!!

Here is audio of the double sonic boom and then the sound of the landing engines (and all the people cheering).

And we found some takeout near the hotel and also found a Pirate.

Rob really needed to get a hair cut. So after Covid tests were negative and can board tomorrow, Rob got his harcut.  The emblem on their checkin stand made a great place for Rob.

And who needs Cruise excursions to see wildlife.  Toni didn't even leave the hotel parking lot for these  "wild animal" sitings

And now to bed and then a wakeup, and we will be heading to the ship with negative covid tests.
